The Christian's Position

Who Is A Christian? A Christian is one who belongs to Christ. The suffix, "ian," means, "belonging to." It's widely, yet erroneously asserted, that the name "Christian," means "Christ-like." Certainly, a Christian should be like Christ, (2 Cor.3:18; 1Pet.2:21), but that is not the meaning of the name. The true definition of the name, carries with it a deeper and richer meaning other than simply being "like," or in some way, "similar" to the Son of God. If one truly belongs to Christ, then the similarities will be ever present. "Belonging to," underscores allegiance to Christ, not just commonality as is suggested in the spurious definition of being "Christ-like." If one truly belongs to Christ, he will be like Him, whereas, one can be "Christ-like," without belonging to Him. Therefore, the meaning of the term "Christian," is strong and forceful.

But in addition to the precise definition of the name Christian, the New Testament sets forth more information regarding who a Christian is, viz:
A Christian is a follower of Christ, (Mt.16:24).
A Christian is a saved person, (Titus 3:5).
A Christian is one who has been washed in the blood of the Lamb, (1Pet.1:18-19).
A Christian is one who has been raised to walk in newness of life, (Rom.6:4).
A Christian is a member of the Lord's church, having been obedient to the gospel, (Mk.16:16).
A Christian is a member of the family of God, (1Tim.3:15).
A Christian is a priest of God, (1Pet.2:5).

What Does The Church Mean To You?
Is the church just a place to go? Is it similar to a lodge or club?
Do you belong because your friends do?
Do you regard the church as a denomination?
Do you belong to the church for selfish reasons, to receive financial assistance when needed?
If these are your ideas concerning the church, you need to change them.

What Your Attitude Should Be.
The kingdom/church should be made first in your life and affection, (Mt.6:33).
The church should be uppermost in your daily prayers, (Phi. 1:3-7).
You should live a pure clean life, (Eph.5:25-27; 1 Pet. 1:16).
You should set your affection on things above, (Col.3:2).
You should put sin to death, (Col.3:5).
And let your light shine! (Mt.5:16).
