Why Attend Every Service?

Last Lord's Day was the first day of not only a new week, but a new year. At the beginning of the sermon I urged everyone to resolve to attend each and every worship service and Bible class of 2017. Let us consider some reasons why this is the right and wise thing to do.

Because I Want To Prove My Love And Gratitude. If we truly love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, (Mk. 12:30), we will want to be at every worship service and Bible class we possibly can. Jesus proved His love for us, (Jn.3:16; Acts 20:28; 1Jn.2:2), why would not want to reciprocate? If our love for Godis shown by our attendance, a lack of love is shown by our absence.

Because I Want To Obey God. Christians are commanded not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together, (Heb. 10:25). The first Christians met weekly, (Acts 20:7; 2:42). Any service where God is worshipped, the Bible is taught and prayer is made is good and "to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin" (Jas.4:17).

Because I Am Made Stronger. Christians are empowered whenever they meet to worship God, making it possible for us to live anobler life. In worship we are fortified not to fall away. Worshipping God together causes the burdens of life to shrink and at times to even melt away.

Because I Want To Help The Church Grow. When Christians put God first in their life, the church always grows. What a wonderful reason to by loyal in attendance. Any person who is careless in attendance is careless in his giving and living.

Because I Want To Set A Good Example. Members of the church are being observed and followed. Our influence is either good or bad. Anytime the church meets our influence is either with Christ or against Him. "Be thou an example of the believers... Take heed unto thyself"(1Tim.4:12,16).

Because It Is Safe To Do So. Those who forsake the assembly wonder if they've sinned. But Iknow I am safe in attending every service and Bible class. The Lord may return at that hour. Jesus says, "Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is" (Mk.13:33).
