"A Nail In A Sure Place"

The language of the above title is taken from Isaiah 22:23-25, and applies to God's servant Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, who was entrusted by God with great responsibility. Sadly, although he served God well for a time, he eventually became untrustworthy and was cut off. But during the time Eliakim was faithful to God he was referred to as, "a nail in a sure place."

We don't give much thought to nails until we need one to hang a picture, a stocking on a mantle, or nail boards together. Without thinking much about, it we put a lot of trust in nails, after all they keep our houses together!

But what about our homes, our families? Are you a nail in a secure place?

Fathers - are you a stout and strong nail that is holding your family together in the Lord? Are you wielding the influence necessary to provide your children a nurturing refuge from the foreboding world outside, (Eph. 6:4; Col.3:21)? Oh how homes today need fathers that are tough as nails when it comes to helping their children combat the ills of society.

Mothers - in many homes today are the lone nail that holds the family together. Through their unselfish love and dedication they make the home a safe and secure place for their children's needs. They are often the dispenser of wisdom and discipline, stepping into a role that should be addressed by the father who's chosen not to be in the family picture. Like Timothy's mother, Eunice, they strive Jo teach their children "the holy scriptures, which are able to make [them] wise unto salvation" (2Tim.3:15).

Grandfathers and Grandmothers - Today there are many grandparents who after raising their children, are raising, or helping to raise their grandchildren. In, many cases they are the only nails in a secure place their grandchildren can depend on. Unselfishness is a quality that shines brightly down upon them and will put them in good standing with the Lord on the Day of Judgment.

Anyone can be "a nail in a secure place," if they will but make the required effort to be one. Our world today desperately needs such nails to keep the our homes, our families and this world intact. Determine to be such a nail that cannot be removed!
