Four Blessed Days

Sunday through Wednesday of last week were four blessed days for Denise and I because we were privileged to attend the Southeast Lectures hosted by the Karns church of Christ in Karn's, TN. The church at Karns is home to the Southeast Institute Of Biblical Studies, formerly known as the East Tennessee School Of Preaching And Missions. The theme for this year's lectureship was Faith Responding To Jesus, From Sinner To Saint. Over the course of these four days we were able to hear 21 gospel sermons, 3 hours of Open Forum, and spend 2 hours singing hymns of praise. Truly, it was one of the most soul enriching four days of our Christian lives. Permit me to give you some reasons why.

Fellowship With The Saints. How grand it was to be around old friends and make new ones. It was good to spend more time with Dan and Judie Jenkins and hear him expound on the Word of God two more times. We were joyful to renew our friendship with Charles and Jane Brown, Earl and Lora Edwards, Wayne and Debbie Miller, Jody and Evelyn Apple, James and Beverly Meadows, and many others. This blessed fellowship is certainly a precursor to what heaven will be like, (Phi. 1:3-6; 1 Jn. 1:3-4).

Feasting On The Word. As a preacher being able to sit and listen to other preachers preach, is a great blessing, and one that does not come around very often. Hearing these great lessons about faith and evangelism served to recharge my spiritual batteries and infuse me with more knowledge and understanding. Impossible it is to hear these sermons and not come away with a renewed sense of dedication and appreciation for what God through Christ has done for me, as well as every child of His. Let me encourage you to be more devoted to Bible study and applying its teachings to your life, (Jas. 1:21-25).

Fulfilling A Dire Need. The world is lost and groping aimlessly for guidance and stability. The only One and the only thing that can meet that need is Christ and the Gospel. Christ has commissioned us to take His saving message to the lost. How many of us can say we are meeting that grave responsibility? These four days instilled in me a dire need to work harder than ever to reach the lost, (Rom. 10:14-15).

The night is coming, let us all get busy, (Jn.9:4)!
