True Global Warming

Last week a Russian global warming research vessel, manned with scientists, made a trip to the South Pole to document melting ice. It turned out to be an huge embarrassment because the ship got stuck in record thick ice. In fact, the ship was so stuck that the three ships sent to rescue them also got lodged in the ice. Finally, the U.S. Coast Guard dispatched an ice breaker to dislodge the ships. Considering its summertime in the southern hemisphere the irony of this entire ordeal is even more of a spectacle. The facts of the matter are the ice is not melting. But Antarctica is not the only place where global warming isn't taking place. Here in the Ohio Valley record low mean temperatures were recorded last week with frigid wind chill factors, coupled with chunks of ice floating in the Ohio River. Its seems everywhere one turns the global warming predictions are not taking place.

Nonetheless, there does exists "true global warming." It's prediction will indeed come to pass, and yet its warnings are mostly ignored. This heating up will not be over a long period of time increasing gradually in incremental degrees. Furthermore, "warming" is an understatement and far too mild a term. According to Scripture it will get really hot, really fast! The apostle Peter foretells of true global warming with these terrifying words, "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat" (2Pet.3:10-12)?

The reason why global warming is such a concern is that people are in a frenzy about protecting this earth. Yet this earth is scheduled for complete annihilation. It and everything in it will melt and be dissolved. May we be much more concerned about the people in the world and their eternal souls, than we are about this ball of dirt that will one day be incinerated. That is the only way we can prepare for true global warming.
