Pleasing God

This article's title is all that matters. Obviously, the world would disagree with the foregoing affirmation. Even some members of the Lord's church would nod approvingly and yet their lives might betray that approval. The world feels no affinity toward God and thus it "...will not seek after God," [regarding lost humanity] "God is not in all his thoughts " (Ps. 10:4). Sinful man never attempts to please the Creator because He does not occupy his thoughts as He ought to. To the alien sinner God is just that, alien. Alien in thought and alien in action. This state makes it impossible to please God. Take note of the following things that will make pleasing God possible:

Reconciliation - Its only by living the faithful Christian life that mankind can ever hope to please God. Sinful man must first be "...reconciled to God by the death of His Son..." (Rom.5:10-11). He must obey Christ and give his life over to Him, (Heb.5:8,9; Gal.2:20;Eph.1:7).

Selflessness - No one can hope to be pleasing to God if they are consumed with pleasing themselves. One must adopt Paul's attitude "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain " (Phi. 1:21). Individuals must strive to pray and live as did Christ "...nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt" (Mt.26:39). We must learn to unwrap from us the snug and ugly cloak of selfishness and "Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others" (Phi.2:4).

Obedience - Once King Self has been dethroned and all vestiges of it jettisoned once and for all from our lives, then obedience will be much easier and much more desirable. As long as one is selfish he cannot be obedient. Obedience will seem too hard, too demanding and most unpleasant for the selfish person. Yet God assures us "...his commandments are not grievous" (Jn.5:3).
