Why Heaven Is So Desirable

God Is There
Our main motivation for going to heaven should be to be with, and see God. Our quest for entrance there is not spurred by curiosity alone, but out of desire. In this vein John wrote, "And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God" (Rev.21:3). What is more desirable than God dwelling with us eternally?

Joy Is There
Where God is sadness cannot be. The joy we have on earth is interrupted on a constant basis. Sin and death is the reason for unsustained joy and happiness. How blessed to have these comforting words of the Psalter, "...in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore" (Ps.16:11).

Jesus Is There
He is "...entered into heaven itself..." (Heb.9:24). The Lamb is the light of heaven (Rev.21:23). There we will need no sun nor moon for He will be the light. How blessed the saved will be to be with the Savior forever.

Everything That Is Better Is There
Anything better is desirable. Heaven is a better country, (Heb.11:16). As we grow older this earth becomes less and less desirable. Here we get sick. Here we suffer and die. Here Satan holds sway. But there, "God wipes away all tears. there is no more death, sorrow, crying and no more pain" (Rev.21:4). Obviously, we "...desire a better country, that is, an heavenly..." (Heb.11:16).

Security Is There
The redeemed will not have to fret over losing their heavenly inheritance. Nor will they have to fear invaders who would rob them of their reward. Just as sinners were not allowed to stay in earthly Eden so sinners cannot enter the heavenly Eden. The revelator also wrote, "And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life" (Rev.21:27).

Splendor Is There
As beautiful as the natural world is, heaven far transcends any beauty that can be imagined. Heaven's splendor is described in terms such as gates of pearl, a street of gold, jasper walls, jewel encrusted foundations, a crystal river flowing from God's throne, (cf.Rev.21) What on earth compares with it? These things and much more makes heaven so desirable.

Will You Be There?
